People who work in certain professions have a higher risk for attempting and/or dying by suicide than others. This can be because:

  • They are more likely to experience trauma
  • They have easier access to means of suicide such as firearms and medications
  • The job involves a high likelihood of injury in the field that may lead to temporary or permanent disability

It’s important to know that there is support available for these professionals.

National Physician Suicide Awareness Day

The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention

The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP) was born out of necessity in response to statistics released in a CDC study ranking construction as the #1 industry for deaths by suicide. The organization’s purpose is to raise awareness about suicide prevention and provide resources and tools to create a zero suicide industry by uniting and supporting the construction community.

Building Futures developed and operates a comprehensive pre-apprenticeship program to prepare diverse, low-income men and women for success in employment as registered apprentices in the building trades. They provide behavioral health support to those involved in the work they support.
